DeMbare sink Monoz
Monday, 06 May 2013 11:27
HARARE - Dynamos infused a new breath of life into their feeble Castle Premiership title defence when in-form Washington Pakamisa scored a brace to dismiss a battling Monomotapa here yesterday.

It was a second consecutive brace for Pakamisa, who netted another double in the 2-2 draw with FC Platinum mid-week.

Tawanda Muparati scored the third for DeMbare to ensure the Glamour Boys picked up their second win of the season from after eight matches.

The defending champions who have drawn the other six matches finally got it right yesterday and the scoreline could have been even wider if Pakamisa, Muparati and Boban Zirintusa had done justice to the numerous chances that came their way.

The result also comes as a relief for coach Calisto Pasuwa, who had come under sustained pressure from a section of the club’s fans and members of his executive and board of directors, after a lifeless start to their title defence.

“We went out in the first half and pulled back the paddle in the second half,” Pasuwa said after the match.

“It’s a morale booster to us. We are saying to the guys lets go out there and maybe start collecting the points. We have to train the players we have so that we can start to challenge for the championship.

“We have so many injuries in the squad so we have to look up to the other guys who have not been playing.”

Pasuwa was forced to ring changes to the squad that did duty against Platinum last Wednesday.

Morris Kadzola was handed his premiership debut after getting his much awaited clearance from Motor Action and the former Bulls defender did well at the right back position.

There was also premiership debut for former CAPS United striker Clive Kawinga and young Abel Gwatidzo, who won a lot of admirers with his clever runs into the box and with a bit of luck and precision he could have capped his day with a goal.

The victory lifted DeMbare from the bottom half of the table to sixth on the log with 12 points from six games and are separated by goal difference with rivals CAPS United, who are also on 12 points after same number of matches.

DeMbare began the match on the front foot and enjoyed a positive opening and it was not a surprise when Muparati thrust them ahead in the sixth minute after some good build-ups from the back.

Thomas Magorimbo, who was shifted to central midfield, started the move in his own half exchanging passes with Pakamisa before releasing Zirintusa.

The Ugandan’s first time shot was too hot for Monoz keeper Tapiwa Zvaita allowing Pakamisa to finish from a tight angle.

Pakamisa doubled Dembare’s lead in the 12th minute after connecting well with Kadzola’s cross from the right.

Dynamos continued to pile the pressure with Zirintusa and Murape Murape took turns to miss the chances.

Pakamisa completed his brace in the 38th minute after receiving a long ball from goal kick by keeper George Chigova.

Pakamisa could have scored hat-trick moments later but he shot straight at Zvaita.

Monoz came back a rejuvenated side in the second half and enjoyed a lot of possession especially after the introduction Praise Tonha but they suffered against DeMbare defence that was organised and committed around the box.

Monoz coach Biggie Zuze blamed the defeat on the glut of missed chances especially in the second half but was left satisfied with his team’s performance.
