HARARE - German coaching instructor Erich Rutemoeller, who was in the country for the past week, admits he was left impressed with the attitude of Zimbabwean top-flight coaches.

Rutemoeller was in the country to conduct a refresher coaching course for all Castle Premiership gaffers in a programme bankrolled by Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance.

The course ended yesterday and the former Germany national team assistant coach spoke with admiration for the calibre of coaches in the country.

“I’m really satisfied with what happened because the course was well organised,” the former Cologne FC coach told the Daily News yesterday.

“We chose the right topics and there was a mixture of theory and practical practice. We had a good discussion on tactical options, game and player observation.

“I think it was very good to help the coaches to improve their knowledge of the game and also talk to each other to exchange ideas.

“I told this group that we are all coaches and it does not matter whether you are the head coach or assistant coach. We are friends and we should try to develop ideas and be open -minded for the development of the game.”

All top-flight clubs were represented at the course by their respective head and assistant coaches, except for Highlanders.

Bosso coach Kelvin Kaindu decided against attending the course, citing work commitments as he was trying to get his side in shape for the Bob89 Super Cup second leg against Dynamos on Sunday.

“The discipline of the local coaches here really surprised me. They showed up on time and we were together from morning until the afternoon,” Rutemoeller added.

“They were eager to learn and had a lot of questions and I think they picked up a lot of things during this course.

“It’s now up to them to apply everything they learnt here in their day-to-day work at their various clubs.”

Rutemoeller, who was the Mannschaft assistant coach between 1994 and 2004, was impressed by the standard of local football after watching the Bob89 match between Dynamos and Highlanders.

“I was very impressed when I watch the match yesterday,” he said.

“For me it was a very interesting experience because of the different atmosphere. It was a good game but just a shame that it ended 4-0.

“The standard of the football was very good and I was talking to (Warriors coach) Klaus (Pagels) during the match and he said he has a good platform to choose players from.”
