Resurgent Chrome Stars win
Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:20
HARARE - Chrome Stars moved into fourth place in the Central Region Division One Soccer League with a 1-0 win over inconsistent FC Platinum Under-19s at the weekend.

Luke Jukulile-Petros’s charges swapped places with Gwanda-based Vumbachikwe, who are wilting in the heat of the race for the championship.

Vumbachikwe lost 1-0 to second-placed FC Strikers in the biggest match of the weekend.

Log leaders Tripple B maintained their stranglehold on top of the league after labouring to a 2-1 win over Silo United at Dulibadzimu Stadium on Saturday.

With the win, Tripple B kept intact their 11-point lead over bitter rivals FC Strikers, who suspended their coach Willard Khumalo last week.

Midlands State University’s fine run in recent games was put to an end by lowly Jesse Mine in an emphatic manner. Jesse Mine, who are two places from bottom, were the biggest winners of the weekend after hammering the “Academics” 4-1 at Colleen Bawn.

New Zimsteel beat Hwahwa 3-0 at Torwood Stadium.

Chapungu won the battle of the soldiers when they dismissed struggling Tongogara 2-1. Both are former Premiership sides. Tongogara are hovering above the relegation zone  in the second-tier league.

Airstars failed to recover from the horror accident in which a number of their players were injured on their way to Beitbridge.

They lost 1-0 to bottom-placed Blanket Mine at Blanket Stadium.

RESULTS

New Zimsteel 3 Hwahwa 0, Jessie Mine 4, MSU 1, Tripple B 2 Silo United 1, Tongogara 1 Chapungu 2, Blanket Mine 1 Airstars 0, Strikers 1 Vumbachikwe 0, Chrome Stars 1 FC Platinum U-19s 0.
