HARARE - Dynamos face a potentially awkward Mbada Diamonds Cup final against tricky Monomotapa at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday, just a week after securing a record 19th Zimbabwean football title.   

Having achieved the top four league finish they targeted at the beginning of the season and a Mbada Cup final berth to go with it, Monomotapa are likely to come into the match with a “nothing to lose approach,” which will pose great danger to a Dynamos side playing with a great sense of expectation from their multitude of fans.

For Dynamos, fresh from winning back-to-back league titles, claiming the Mbada Cup will figuratively be close to celebrating Christmas and New Year in a single calendar year.

African broadcasting giants SuperSport will beam the match live.

But before Dynamos can place the country’s most prestigious cup competition into their trophy cabinet, they need to get past an enterprising Monomotapa side which has already beaten them once this season.

The last time the two sides met was during the second half of the PSL season with the title insight.

Monoz simply outplayed Dynamos in the first half and surged ahead through towering forward Tawanda Nyamandwe.

With defeat looming, DeMbare came back from the dugout with a fight of their lives, taking the game to Monoz and ultimately emerging 2-1 victors.

Now with a staggering $100 000 up for grabs, the stakes are higher and one of the teams can afford to put a foot wrong on this one.

 “This is the stuff dreams are made of,” is how one passionate Dynamos supporter, Tino Ngwerume, simply described the atmosphere amongst the Dynamos family, which stand on the threshold of capping a great era.

However, Monomotapa coach Biggie Zuze, himself a former Dynamos player, has rallied his team to win the Mbada Cup as befitting finish to a season their attacking brand of football won them many admirers.

“We are looking forward to the final, I have been telling the boys to put their act together and bring home the Mbada Cup as befitting reward for the season’s hard work and I’m glad the boys haven’t disappointed so far,” he said.

The 2012 season has seen a youthful and skilful Monoz side illuminate the domestic scene and gain their place amongst the domestic elite.

“We can’t say this match is more important than any other match,” Monomotapa Joseph Mukoki said.

“Most our players have never won a Premiership title medal. But this is their chance,” he said, adding:

“We wanted a top four finish, we got it. We wanted to be in the final and now we are there. It’s now up to the players to go a step further.”
