HARARE - Think back over the last five months and ask yourself what you have achieved. It would take you some time before coming up with something worthy to mention.

But ask that same question to 15-year-old Vivien Onamusi and she does not even know where to begin.

The Arundel Girls High School student is making giant steps in the world of athletics since taking up the sport some five years ago.

Since then, Onamusi has amassed countless trophies and medals in such a short space of time that he is running out space to store here latest accolades.

Last year onamusi was part of the Arundel team that won gold in the 4x100m relay event by 12:89sec at the National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) Cross-country, Track and Field Championship at Plumtree High School.

This year alone her standout performances include winning gold in the Under-16 girls 100m at Lomagundi Athletics Invitational tournament.

At the same meet she also won gold in the Under-16 girls 400m.

After the Lomagundi tourney Onamusi went on to show that she is a force to reckon with star by coming first at the in the Under-16 girls 100m and 400m events at Prince Edward Sprint Challenge Tournament.

Early this month at Nash Harare Provincial Athletics Tournament, Onamusi won gold medals in the Under-16 girls 100m and 4x100m relay.

However, on Friday Onamusi failed to impress at Nash National Athletics competition after she managed to win only two bronze medals in the 100m and 4x100m relay.

The young athlete is aiming to represent Zimbabwe at the Olympics in the near future.

“I’m taking this career seriously and I want to qualify for the Olympic Games before I reach 20 years,” Onamusi told the Daily News on Sunday last week.

“What I have achieved to date when I began my career is due to hard work, determination and total discipline on and off the track and listening to advice.” -
