BULAWAYO - Bulawayo Chiefs have taken over the top spot in the Southern Region Division One League after a 4-0 drubbing of Victoria Falls-based Mkhosana last Saturday.

Chiefs are tied on six points with Quelaton and New West but sit in first position courtesy of a superior goal difference.

The Rahman Gumbo and Thulani Sibanda-led side has five goals to their credit and is yet to concede while second placed Quelaton has also scored five times and let in two goals.

Quelaton beat Bulawayo Jumbos 2-0 through goals by Moodley Njeleza and Trust Usayi to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Another side that still enjoys a 100 percent record in this year’s campaign is third placed New West who edged city neighbours Ajax Hotspurs 1-0 courtesy of a Jephias Muzenda strike in the first half.

Bantu Rovers bounced back from their opening weekend loss to New West to register an away victory over Rufaro Rovers in Hwange.

Kevin “Scopo” Sibanda scored the all-important goal that secured maximum points for Bantu in a battle of the Rovers.

This was sweet revenge for the Bulawayo side that was denied the opportunity to bounce back to the top flight league last year after losing their last game of the season to Rufaro.

Former premiership giants Zimbabwe Saints began the season on a losing note after going down 0-1 to Ntabazinduna.

Chauya Chikwata did not play last weekend after failing to register on time.

The Admore Sibanda and Tirivaviri Sithole-coached Saints have signed a number of players with premiership experience in a bid to secure the solitary promotion slot to the premiership.

Some of the familiar names in Saints’ books include Ntokozo Tshuma, Mlamuli Phakathi, Wonder Peperere and Golden Munandi.
