HARARE - The Zimbabwe national football team trooped into camp last night to prepare for their international friendly match against Zambia on Sunday.

The match is part of commemorations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Gabon air crash that occurred on April 27, 1993.

The crash off the coast of Gabon wiped out 18 national team players, two coaches, a doctor, two Zambian Football Association officials, a journalist and five crew members.

 The team was on its way to Senegal for a 1994 World Cup qualifier when the Zambian Air Force DHC-5D Buffalo crashed, just 120 seconds after take-off from Libreville.

Warriors coach Klaus Dieter Pagels is taking on his third assignment after leading Zimbabwe to a 2-1 win against Botswana in an international friendly in February, before narrowly losing 2-1 away to Egypt in a 2014 World Cup qualifier last month.

Warriors team manager Shariff Musa said the team will leave for Zambia tomorrow by road and all players called for the game had indicated they will be joining camp. -
