CAPS held, Gunners live to fight another day
Thursday, 15 November 2012 13:13
BULWAYO - Two late goals saw CAPS United come back from behind to salvage a draw away to Chicken Inn in Bulawayo yesterday.

Chicken Inn got off the mark after just three minutes through a header by double-scorer Danny Phiri past stranded CAPS goalkeeper Muzondiwa Gonese.

Phiri completed his brace 22 minutes later when he delivered a low grounder to beat Gonese.

Makepekepe returned a rejuvenated side in the second half and started to frequent the Gamecocks’ goal area.

They were duly rewarded when Pride Tafirenyika connected a brilliant cross from right-back Tapiwa Kumbuyani on 74 minutes.

Shingi Kawondera’s introduction 10 minutes from fulltime added impetus to the United attack, leading to the equaliser in injury time.

Rahman Kutsanzira’s cross was met with a powerful header by Leonard Fiyado past Chicken Inn keeper Liberty Chirava.

Meanwhile, Gunners were left to fight another day after Valentine Ndaba’s priceless goal two minutes into the game was all they needed to dismiss Motor Action in a battle of former champions.

Motor Action paid the price for not playing to the whistle after their defenders failed to clear their lines in anticipation of a hand ball decision against Gunners striker Tapiwa Dephistara.

Gunners remain in 13th place, tied on 31 points with Black Mambas, who beat relegated Hardbody 2-1 at Morris Depot.

“We have a great opportunity to fight for our survival in our last match against Chicken Inn, I am sure the boys will cope,” said Gunners coach Moses Chunga. - Jeffrey Muvundisi and Austin Karonga
