HARARE - Matabeleland Tuskers seamer Glen Querl picked his sixth first-class five-wicket haul as Mountaineers were all out for 264 runs on the first day of the Castle Logan Cup at Queens Sports Club yesterday.

Tuskers were on five runs for no loss at stumps after facing 12 balls. Opening batsmen Terrence Duffin with four runs and Brian Chari (1) resumed day two on the crease this morning.

The visiting Mountaineers opted to bat after winning the toss, losing opener Kevin Kasuza for a five- ball duck in the second over after he was caught by overseas professional Moeen Ali off the bowling of Querl.

Mark Pettini and Timycen Maruma provided the Mountaineers backbone with the bat scoring 58 and 59 runs on a day national team opener Hamilton Masakadza (32) reached a milestone by playing in his 100th first class match.

Captain Tino Mawoyo scored 43 runs at top of the order before he fell to Querl after being caught by Chris Mpofu.

The 24-year-old Querl finished the first innings with five wickets for 56 runs in 20.1 overs while comeback all-rounder Sean Williams and Moeen, who plays for Worcestershire in the English County Championship, took two wickets apiece.

At Harare Sports Club, Englishman Ben Slater scored 89 runs after opening the bat for Southern Rocks while Richmond Mutumbami unbeaten on 87 made sure their side close the day on 259/4 against the Mashonaland Eagles.

The Rocks elected to bat after winning the toss but lost opener Roy Kaia earlier in the second over after he was caught by Sikandar Raza off the bowling of medium pacer Innocent Chinyoka.

Mutumbami and Peter Burgoyne (8), another Derbyshire player, continues on strike this morning.
