CAPS Utd aim for strong finish

HARARE - Having set and changed objectives at every turn in a troubled season that has been everything but flawless, CAPS United have eyed a strong finish to their Castle Premiership campaign.

Perched in ninth place on the log standings with just three games remaining, Makepekepe are aiming to end the season on a high by winning their remaining fixtures.

After seeing their mini-revival checked by 10-man Harare City on Wednesday, who held them to a nil-all draw, United believe beating Motor Action in their next league match will be a step in the right direction.

CAPS coach Taurai Mangwiro says his troops will be at an advantage against the Mighty Bulls with the psychological advantage of having dismissed them in the first round of the lucrative Mbada Diamonds Cup.

“They have been posting good results of late. I watched Merciful Ncube scoring a hat trick.

“Yesterday (on Wednesday) they won 2-0 (against Quelaton) they are high on confidence.

“I expect them to come out fighting,” Mangwiro told reporters during CAPS’ weekly presser.

“We got the better of them the last time we met in the Mbada Cup tie, its advantage to us; they will be playing catch-up.”

The former Monomotapa coach admitted Wednesday’s draw against City handicapped his side’s slim but realistic chance of a top four finish.

“We wanted six points from our last two matches, we got four.

“We felt hard done by as we could have given ourselves a chance to sneak into the top four had we continued our fine run.

“Look at it this way, the team on fourth place has 46 points I’m sure.

“If we had won our last two matches we could be in the running to finish on 46 points.

“But we dropped points yesterday, we lost the plot. I didn’t want to talk about this but that’s just the way it is.”

CAPS will wind up the season with matches against eighth-placed Motor Action, number four Chicken Inn and fifth-placed Shabanie Mine.
