Bantu Rovers seek to maintain lead
Friday, 05 October 2012 11:08
BULAWAYO - Bantu Rovers head coach Reuben Tsengwa has called upon his players to stay focused in their quest to win promotion back into the Premier Soccer League.

The former top flight campaigners have a date with Hwange-based Mpumalanga at Luveve Stadium on Sunday and will bank on regular scorer Abraham Mbaiwa and the many youth internationals in their ranks to carry the day for them.

“As far as I am concerned it is looking healthy and we just have to stay focused to maintain our lead at the top,” Tsengwa said.

“Morale is high in the team as everyone wants to go back to the Premier League, but we still have to work hard to improve our chances.”

Bantu enjoy a three point lead at the summit of the Southern Region Division One log table with 52 points from 24 matches.

Tsengwa says the team’s only injury concern is former Highlanders captain Gilbert Banda.

Regular scorer Mbaiwa has found a new lease of life at Bantu after spending the first half of the year in the wilderness after being deemed surplus to requirements at Chicken Inn.

“It is a team effort and I cannot take sole credit for the team’s good run because someone has to create chances for me to score and others have to defend so that we do not concede,” Mbaiwa said.

Bantu’s nearest rivals, ZPC Hwange and How Mine, have had their matches moved to Tuesday because ZPC and How Mine’s opponents Power Cosmos will be involved in their in house company tourney at the weekend.

Third placed ZPC will travel to Ntabazinduna while Cosmos will visit second placed How Mine.
