CAPS boot out Samaneka

HARARE - CAPS United have fired former captain Marvel Samaneka as part of a purge of players accused of causing dressing room disharmony at the under-performing former Zimbabwe champions.

CAPS president Twine Phiri confirmed Samaneka’s ouster in an interview with the Daily News yesterday.
“Yes I can confirm that we have fired him,” said Phiri.

“He was a disruptive element, that is all I can say. For the club to go forward, we need a dressing room full of committed and hard-working professionals.”

While Phiri was unwilling to shed more light on the expulsion, a well-placed source told the Daily News that striker Evans Gwekwerere was also in front of the firing squad, but was spared the axe after apologising to the directors.

“Evans apologised for his wrongdoing and was given a two- week suspension. The directors forgave Evans and are willing to give him another chance,” said the source.

The expulsion of Samaneka brings to three the players who have been sacked by Makepekepe this season. Last month, two former captains, Edmore Sibanda and Nyasha Mukumbi, were sent packing for allegedly fermenting unrest in the team.

Samaneka, who is blessed with amazing dribbling skills, had become a crowd favourite at the Green Machine since joining six years ago from Kadoma Wildcats.
