HARARE - The Zimbabwe Sevens rugby team begin their African Cup Sevens campaign tomorrow morning against a strong Kenyan Chairman’s Select outfit in Mombasa.

The Kenyan C side is being coached by Kenya Sevens great Innocent “Namcos” Simiyu and features such players as Dennis Muhanji, Chris Asego and Mike Agevi who have made several appearances for Kenya on the IRB Sevens World Series.

Simiyu’s men will probably be the Cheetahs’ biggest challenge in Pool A, where they are also grouped alongside Cote d’Ivoire and Morocco.

Stand-in captain Daniel Hondo will aim to guide the Cheetahs to some positive results in Kenya to ensure the side build a winning momentum to carry them through to the London leg of the IRB World Sevens Series in two weeks’ time.

The World-Cup bound Cheetahs, who touched down at Moi International Airport yesterday morning, will certainly not have it easy at the African Cup Sevens.

After playing Kenya C, Zimbabwe will take on Morocco at 12:40pm.

Morocco are being coached by Christophe Rouchaleou, who briefly handled the Kenya Sevens team almost seven years ago.

The Moroccans have brought their strongest squad, including players who ply their trade in France, and Zimbabwe will be wary of their threat.

The Cheetahs will wind up their day’s campaign by facing Ivory Coast at 4:20 pm.

Namibia, Kenya B, Zambia and Tunisia will battle in Pool B while Pool C is made up of Madagascar, Uganda, Senegal and Nigeria.

Daniel Hondo (capt), Fortune Chipendu, Tapiwa Tsomondo, Lucky Sithole, Japhat Ndebele, Boyd Rous, Shayne Makombe, Tanga Nemadire, Steven Hunduza, Kilvan Mugunje, Gardner Nechironga, Wes Mbanje.
