Another home draw for Shabanie
Monday, 08 October 2012 11:32
HARARE - Shabanie Mine threw away a two-goal advantage to draw with Buffaloes at Maglas Stadium yesterday.
This was Shabanie’s second draw in succession at home after they allowed Godknows Mangani to head home a late equaliser for Black Mambas on September 26.

After the match, Shabanie supporters wandered around the dressing room to register their displeasure at the way their team has been crumbling of late after a promising first half of the season.

Shabanie coach Luke Masomere reshuffled his team, relegating his two leading strikers Nelson Maziwisa and Tarisai Rukanda to the bench and gave Farai Mususunye his first start for the club.

He also kept faith in Francis Kanda, who scored a consolation in the 4-1 drubbing by Dynamos last week.

Despite the changes, Shabanie started the better of the two sides.

Pervington Zimunya, who is Shabanie’s player of the moment beat two Buffaloes defenders on the left and spotted Mususunye inside the box with a pinpoint cross, but he shot wide.

Shabanie continued to create chances but Mususunye and Kanda failed to utilise them.

The home team finally came right in the 32nd minute when Mususunye headed in a Ray Sibanda cross.

Erea Phiri won possession in the midfield and fed left-back Sibanda, who whipped in a across for Mususunye to power home.

Shabanie Mine continued to pressure for a second goal but they continued to miss chances.

PSL leading scorer Mazivisa then scored his 16th goal from the penalty spot in the 60th minute.

Muchineripi Wayerera handled inside the box in a desperate attempt to clear a cross from Rukanda.

Buffaloes pulled one back through former Shabanie striker Michael Mageja in the 76th minute.

Buffaloes launched a counter attack when goalkeeper Tapiwa Mafunga’s long clearance found Jeffrey Takunda on the right. Takunda spread the ball to Mageja for a simple tap in towards an outdrawn Twaliki.

Prosper Matizanadzo finally came right in the 85th minute when he headed a corner kick from Chirere for Buffaloes equaliser. - Sports Writer
