HARARE - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has reverted to the initial draw of the 2012 Mbada Diamonds Cup, paving way for a Dynamos versus FC Platinum semi-final while CAPS United will clash Monomotapa.

Statements linked to PSL chief executive Kennedy Ndebele had seemed to suggest a CAPS-Dynamos semi-final pairing with Monomotapa facing FC Platinum in the other last four encounter.

But PSL chairman Twine Phiri told the Daily News last night that that the top-tier league would not temper with the draw that was beamed live in August.

“We would like to apologise to our sponsor Mbada Diamonds and the football fraternity for the confusion that surrounded the semi- final fixtures,” Phiri said.

“After we spoke to the draw master, Charles Mabika, we have decided to stick to the decision reached during the ceremony that was watched live by millions of Zimbabweans.

“We have consulted our sponsor and I am glad that we didn’t waiver from what happened during the draw.”

FC Platinum beat bitter rivals Shabanie Mine 1- 0 at Mandava Stadium on Saturday while CAPS overcame Buffaloes 2- 0 at Gibbo in Triangle on the same day.

The following day, Monomotapa staged a dramatic comeback from two goals down to eventually end up 3-2 winners at the Colliery while Dynamos walloped Gunners 3- 0 at Baghdad.

Meanwhile, football broadcaster Charles Mabika, who officiated during the draw, was equally puzzled by the conflicting statements concerning the semi-finals.

Mabika said it was clear from the draw that quarter-final one pitting Highlanders and Monomotapa would go on to meet the winner of quarter-final three clash between CAPS and Buffaloes.

 At the same draw, Dynamos and Gunners, who were in quarter-final two, were drawn to play either FC Platinum or Shabanie Mine from quarter final four.

The confusion, according to Mabika, could have emanated from a PSL handbook released after the draw.

“It’s unfortunate that I didn’t have a look at the PSL handbook on rules and regulations, which might have caused the confusion, but as far as the draw is concerned, it was done in line with international standards,” Mabika told the Daily News yesterday.

“I think what the PSL, Zifa or any organising committee need to do in future is to spell out clearly the rules and regulations of any competition so that there’s no misrepresentation of facts.”
