HARARE - Shabanie Mine and FC Platinum played out a pulsating goalless draw in the Zvishavane derby at Maglas Stadium yesterday in a Castle Premiership encounter.

The two teams drew two-all in the reverse fixture at Mandava Stadium early in the season.

FC Platinum coach Tendai Chikuni complained bitterly on the quality of the officiating.

“I have never seen such bad officiating all my life,” an irate Chikuni told reporters after the match.

“Of course we were not playing well in the first half but the referee was frustrating my players and I don’t know why he denied Donald’s (Ngoma) goal.”

Elvis Muuya Shabanie Mine assistant coach was happy with the way his team played despite not getting the breakthrough.

“We played well but we failed to score, a draw is still a good result for us.

“We are also happy with the atmosphere as there were no incidences of violence,” he said.

The home side could have collected maximum points as they dominated their opponents from the first whistle.

The Chinda Boys restricted the platinum miners into their own half for the greater part of the first half with FC Platinum waiting until the 39th minute to record their first shot at goal through Mitchell Katsvairo.

Premiership leading goal scorer Nelson Maziwisa failed to beat Tafadzwa Dube in the first minute when he got to the end of a Tarisai Rukanda free kick.

In the 13th minute, Dube was at hand to deny Shabanie the opener when spectacularly saved a Pervington Zimunya free kick.

Dube was called back into action again in the 33rd minute when he pushed for a corner a goal-bound header from Tafadzwa Mombeshora.

Shabanie continued to create opportunities but fluffed them to give FC Platinum a lifeline going into the breather.

After the half time break, the visitors came back a better side and Shabanie Mine goalkeeper Roy Mazingi made his first save in the 55th minute denying Zephaniah Ngodzo from a free kick.

Donald Ngoma had a goal disallowed in the 61st minute when referee Happy Mabhena ruled that the striker had fouled Smart Muchabaiwa.

Chikuni brought in William Manondo for Charles Sibanda in the 68th minute and the substitution added firepower in the visitors’ attack but despite the changes both teams could not be separated. - Sports Writer
