HARARE - Zimbabwe Cricket Coach of the Year Dave Houghton returns to Bulawayo to face Matabeleland Tuskers, a side he guided to back-to-back Logan Cup titles.

The former Zimbabwe captain is now in charge of Masvingo-based Southern Rocks, who take on the Tuskers in a Logan Cup tie starting at Queens Sports Club today.

 “I was thrilled to get the award but it’s related to last year’s achievements when I was still with Tuskers, it goes out to all the players and everybody who played a part towards our victory,” Houghton told the Daily News yesterday.

 “It’s good to see some old faces and sharing laughter and stuff like that but at the end of the day when we take to the field we will be aiming to beat them because they are now our competitors.”

 Rocks lost at home to Midwest Rhinos by an innings and 92 runs inside three days last week, a result that left coach Houghton with no option but to admit having been outplayed in every department by the Kwekwe-based franchise.

 “We were outplayed in every department and we need to work hard in all areas in order to be competitive,” he added.

In another Castle Logan Cup encounter, new Mashonaland Eagles coach Steve Mangongo and his charges host high-riding Midwest Rhinos at Harare Sports Club.

The Eagles lost their second match of the season to Mountaineers by six wickets at Mutare Sports Club last Friday.
