HARARE - An inter-franchise Under-18 cricket match pitting host Mashonaland Eagles and Southern Rocks was delayed by three hours owing to the absence of scoring a sheet here yesterday.

The Golden Eagles which is Mashonaland Eagles’ one of the two participating teams in this junior age group tournament were scheduled to play a declaration match against the visiting Southern Rocks from Masvingo.

The match was scheduled to start at 9am but the score sheet only arrived at the match venue at around midday prompting the officials from the two teams agreeing on a 35-over match.

The first ball of the match was then finally bowled at 12.20pm.

Golden Eagles took to the crease first after winning the toss and were all out for 166 runs in their allotted overs.

There was more drama midway through the Southern Rocks chase when without warning the umpires, Josphat Matapure and Elliot Mushaninga ended the match saying they had to collect their match allowances at the Mashonaland Eagles’ offices at Harare Sports Club.

The match was left with no result as the Masvingo-based was on 80 runs for the loss of six wickets after 20 overs when Matapure and Mushaninga walked off the pitch.

Meanwhile, team officials had to play the role of scorers after the scorers appointed for the match failed to turn up as they demanded to be paid first.

Hopefully the cricket action will continue today at Sunrise as Southern Rocks are scheduled to take on Mutare-based Mountaineers while at the other venue at Old Hararians Golden Eagles will square off against the Mid-West Rhinos.

At the same venue, Matabeleland Tuskers entertain Fish Eagles -the Mashonaland Eagles’ second team in the tournament.

Prince Edward plays host to the Under-16 games while the Under-19s are playing at Eaglesvale.
