Rushwaya, Chidzambwa banned
Thursday, 18 October 2012 11:45
HARARE - Former Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya leads a list of 13 individuals facing life bans from all football activities after being found guilty of match-fixing, it emerged last night.

Although the full list was not available to us at the time of going to print, the Daily News understands that Rushwaya, alongside ex-Zifa programmes officer Jonathan Musavenga, were fingered by the Ahmed Ebrahim-led Independent Ethics Committee as the masterminds of the Asiagate match-fixing scandal.

Zifa is likely to endorse recommendations by the Ethics Committee which has suggested severe punishment comprising life and lengthy bans.

The Ethics Committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge Ebrahim, this week announced completing the drawn-out probe almost a year after being appointed by Zifa in October last year.

In the eventuality of a Zifa endorsement, which the association has implied, world football governing body Fifa will also likely rubber-stamp the decision by its affiliate, leaving a whole generation of footballers on the streets.

According to information at hand, the list of individuals facing life bans also include former Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa, ex-PSL official Godfrey Japajapa and football agent Kudzi Shaba.

The most prominent players on the list are former Warriors captain Method Mwanjali, who turns out for South African Mamelodi Sundowns, and Bidvest Wits defender Thomas Sweswe.
