HARARE - The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) and SuperSport have concluded a landmark broadcast deal that will enable Africa’s leading sports broadcaster to air Zimbabwe’s Cup and league matches until 2017.

SuperSport will broadcast the fixtures through all platforms including television, mobile and internet throughout sub-Saharan Africa and adjacent islands.

The milestone deal, which has materialised after drawn out negotiations, was confirmed in a joint press release by PSL chairperson Twine Phiri and SuperSport’s Head of Acquisitions and Legal, Brendon Foot.

An elated Phiri said the broadcast deal will massively improve the financial situation of Zimbabwe’s top-tier clubs.

“This long-term deal will ensure the sustainability of our league and will no doubt attract sponsors,” said Phiri.

SuperSport’s Foot added that the deal is a win-win arrangement for both parties.

“There is tremendous future potential in Zimbabwe and we believe this investment will grow and mutually benefit both parties,” he said.

“We are excited to be breaking new ground with our northern neighbours.”

The press release was silent on the financial details of the deal, while Phiri was reluctant to shed light on the matter.

“I won’t say much on the details, but all I can say is that it is a very good deal; a very rewarding deal for Zimbabwean football,” said the PSL boss.

“It is wonderful that a world-class broadcaster such as SuperSport is now our broadcast partner.

“We received excellent feedback from our stakeholders after SuperSport transmitted a couple of our fixtures in the past.”

The deal between the PSL and SuperSport brings to eight the number of African countries in which the regional sports broadcaster is active.

SuperSport now broadcasts domestic football in South Africa, Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
