Jambo to undergo surgery
Wednesday, 24 October 2012 13:18
HARARE - Zimbabwe and Kaizer Chiefs fullback Jimmy Jambo will undergo surgery next week after suffering a horror tackle at the hands of compatriot Tinashe Nengomasha of Bidvest Wits last week.

Nengomasha was shown a straight red card for the tackle while Jambo had to be taken to hospital straight away, during last Friday’s Telkom Knockout clash between Chiefs and Wits.

Jambo is now on the growing list of Amakhosi defenders who are currently out injured that also include Jimmy Tau, Siboniso Gaxa, Sakhile Hlongwa and Morgan Gould.

“(Tau) is resting after his surgery but is expected to miss the rest of the season. Jimmy will be going for surgery on October 31 at Morningside Clinic. The surgery is normally delayed to allow the swelling to settle,” Chiefs physio Dave Milner told the club’s official website.

“He had MRI scan and saw the orthopaedic (surgeon) who said there was significant damage.

“After the surgery Jimmy will be placed on a rehab programme and a route to map his return to play will be implemented.”

Both Jambo and Tau are expected to miss the rest of the 2012-13 season which is a big blow to coach Stuart Baxter’s plans.

According to Milner, all the Chiefs players on the casualty list are recovering but no specific date has been given for their return.

“Gaxa is making a good recovery from his ankle. He has started running and is doing simple functional ball exercises,” he said.

“He will undergo another scan this week just to ensure the ligament has healed well and is expected to return to full training next week.”

Gould, who injured his Achilles tendon in training, should be back soon, while Hlongwa is expected back in training next month.

“Morgan is currently working hard at his rehabilitation. He must be commended for his great attitude and work ethic after such a traumatic injury. He is still on track to be ready for the second half of the season.

“(Hlongwa) is recovering well after his bilateral groin surgery.

“He is working hard with the biokineticist and has started running at training. He is expected to return to training mid-November.” - Sports Writer
