How Mine regain top spot
Tuesday, 11 September 2012 09:45
HARARE - How Mine are back on top of the Southern Region Division One log standings after eking out a 1-0 away victory over Ntabazinduna on Saturday.

The gold miners regained the top spot after ZPC Hwange, who went into the weekend as the log leaders, were held to a 1-1 draw by Railstars on the same day.

ZPC were lucky to go away with a point from Raylton after a strike from Andrea Banda had set the rail men on the path to victory but a goalkeeping mistake saw Tafara Chese’s long range effort restoring parity for the Solomon Kaseke-coached side.

Bantu Rovers moved into second place on 45 points and trail the log leaders by a single point after their 3-0 demolition of Power Cosmos.

Aaron Nyarumwe grabbed a brace for Bantu while Zimbabwe youth international Nqobizitha Masuku weighed in with the third goal.

ZPC slipped to third position on the log after their draw with Railstars and are on 44 points from 22 matches.

How Mine and Bantu Rovers have played a game less than the disposed log leaders.

Lobengula based New West were the biggest winners of the weekend with a 7-1 drubbing of a hapless Projects outfit.

The big win saw New West moving into fourth position with Railstars slipping down to fifth.

Both sides have 39 points from 22 games but New West enjoys a superior goal difference.
