Monoz prevail over Shabanie
Monday, 29 April 2013 12:44
HARARE - Resurgent Monomotapa picked up their second win in the Castle Premiership on the trot when Kuda Musharu’s second half strike helped them edge Shabanie Mine yesterday.

Musharu scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute to ensure that his team register their third win this season following wins over Chicken Inn and Buffaloes.

The hosts dominated the Chinda Boys from the first whistle showing their intentions to win, but Musharu missed a good chance in the ninth minute following a cross from Hillary Mugoniwa.

The opening minutes clearly belonged to the home side as Shabanie were forced into their own half with the Monomotapa midfielder enjoying the better of the exchanges.

Monomotapa created a lot of chances during this period and could have wrapped up the match in the opening 30 minutes but they were let down by poor finishing.

After the breather, Monomotapa continued to control the game and found their only important goal after Mugoniwa combined with Musharu.

The home side continued to press on after taking the lead with Ishmael Lawe coming close to scoring a minute after Musharu’s goal but he was denied by Shabanie goalkeeper Victor Twaliki.

Returning Shabanie coach Luke Masomere tried to inject some life into his side by bringing in Caleb Masocha for Valentine Ndaba.

Masocha appeared to have brought urgency in the team’s attack, but Monoz held on for the win.

They could have added a second goal towards the end, but Lawe missed with a wild effort after a wonderful cross by Nelson Melson.

After the match Monomotapa coach Biggie Zuze praised his charges.

“Today (yesterday) we played very well and I’m happy to collect maximum points, we should have killed off the game in the first half but we lost many chances and we are going to work on our finishing” he said.
