Bantu back on top

BULAWAYO - Former Castle Premiership side Bantu Rovers are back on top of the Southern Region Division One log standings after a 3-0 victory over struggling Makhandeni on Sunday.

Tshintsha Guluva displaced How Mine, who were shocked 1-0 by Rufaro on Saturday in Hwange.

The Gold miners slipped to third place after their defeat while fellow championship contenders ZPC Hwange moved up to second place after registering a home win over Sizani Fruits.

Bantu Rovers are on 48 points from 22 games while second-placed ZPC Hwange have accumulated 47 points from 23 games.

Third-placed How Mine remain on 46 points while fourth-placed New West cemented their position after etching out a 3-0 victory over Mpumalanga.

New West are on 42 points and are fast becoming the championship dark horses.

Another former top flight side, Railstars, floundered in their efforts to keep up with the leading pack after being held to a goalless draw by Tsholotsho.

Tsholotsho head coach Lizwe Sweswe hailed his charges’ performance against their much-fancied opponents.
“We were unlucky not to come away with the maximum points after creating many opportunities, but a point away from home is good for us,” Sweswe said.

Zimbabwe Saints continue to hover in the wrong end of the table after failing to capitalise on home advantage against Black Boots on Saturday.

Saints were held to a goalless draw by the police outfit and occupy position 13 on the 17 team log with a mere 25 points from 23 games.
