HARARE - Gunners coach Moses Chunga believes that his team will survive relegation from the Castle Premiership because they are a “special breed.”

The 2009 Zimbabwe champions find themselves deep in the relegation battle with 22 points from 25 matches.
Gunners now have five games to save their premiership status.

They take on CAPS United this weekend followed by meetings with Monomotapa, Harare City, Motor Action and Chicken Inn.

“My heart bleeds for these youngsters at Gunners because this club should not go down to Division One, they don’t deserve to be there,” Chunga said after watching his team lose 3-0 to Dynamos in the Mbada Diamonds Cup quarterfinal at Baghdad Stadium on Sunday.

“They are good but it’s only that as youngsters at times they lose concentration and lack experience resulting in them losing games but otherwise they are a good side.

“In fact since inception, Gunners has been producing talented young players who have gone to make a mark at national level.

“The club has contributed a lot towards football development in the country, a feat which I believe no team has afforded young players such exposure.”

Gunners started brightly against Dynamos on Sunday but were caught flat- footed in the 13th minute when right back Blessing Sande gave too much space to Denver Mukamba to score the opener.

Goalkeeper Clayton Dombo should also have done better by either tipping the ball over bar or punch it back into play but he fumbled it into his own net.

Tapiwa Dephistara, Ishamael Lawe and substitute Valentine Ndaba were outstanding for Chando Kupisa at Baghdad but they were let down by their teammates, who seemed overwhelmed by the occasion.

Chando Kupisa has been the springboard for a number of players who include Qadr Amini, Cliff Sekete, Ishmael Lawe, Leonard Fiyado, Hardlife Zvirekwi among others.

This weekend Chunga and his men must be at their best when they take on a rejuvenated CAPS at the National Sports Stadium.‘
