HARARE - Harare City new signing William Manondo made his intentions of landing this year’s Castle Premiership golden boot clear after netting a brace in his team’s 4-0 demolishing of Motor Action.

The Mighty Bulls, who are missing the services of head coach Joey Antipas who is at coaching attachment in German and injured captain Marlon Jani, were put to the sword by a ruthless City at Motor Action Sports Club on Saturday.

Manondo, regarded as excess baggage by his former club FC Platinum was introduced as second half substitute for Silas Songani 15 minutes from time.

The former Kiglon forward did not waste any time as he was on the score sheet 12 minutes later beating Bulls goalkeeper Itai Chiwara with a header from David Kutyauripo’s cross.

Manondo completed his brace on the stroke of fulltime as he added gloss to the result by scoring the Sunshine Boys’ fourth of the match.

This time the assist was from another former Dynamos player, Martin Vengesayi, who unleashed a stinging shot that Chiwara could not handle.

Manondo was at hand to tap in the rebound and compound the Bulls to their second defeat on the trot.  

After the match, Manondo was pleased with his performance and said he was hoping to emulate his former teammate at FC Platinum, Nelson Maziwisa.  

“I’m glad that I’m getting game time something that I was lacking at FC Platinum,” Manondo told the Daily News.

“I have played in the same team with Nelson Maziwisa before and his achievement as the country’s top scorer inspired me to play to my potential.

“With the support that I’m getting from the coach and team members so far I’m sure the golden boot race will go to the wire.”

Coincidentally while Manondo was destroying the Mighty Bulls a few kilometres away, Maziwisa was also doing what he knows best – scoring goals.

Maziwisa took his 2013 tally to five goals when he scored a double to help the platinum miners beat Black Mambas 2-1 at Morris Depot.

The FC platinum forward has already started the season on fire and it looks like he will not be letting go of his title easily.

Manondo and the rest of the strikers in the Castle Premiership will have to be at their best to wrestle the Golden Boot away from Maziwisa.

The Sunshine boys’ striker forward however showed that he has the predatory instincts that can help him challenge the FC Platinum for the crown of most deadly marksman in the top flight.
