Hondo dominates NRL Awards
Saturday, 10 November 2012 13:39
HARARE - Harare Sports Club captain Daniel Hondo dominated National Rugby League (NRL) Awards last night after he was crowned both Player of the Year and Backline Player of the Year at a ceremony in the capital.

The experienced centre — who is currently with the Zimbabwean national side in Namibia — was crowned in absentia. The former Hartpury College and British Universities Select midfielder shepherded Sports Club to the NRL title in the just-ended season, partnering emerging centre Simba Chirimuuta, who walked away with the Rookie of the Year accolade.

Matabeleland Warriors flank Biselele Tshamala, who is also with the Sables in Windhoek, was named Forward of the Year. Also honoured was Warriors scrumhalf Ozzie Lynx, who was crowned Most Disciplined Player of the Year. Lynx’s coach, former Sables international Reuben Kumpasa, was chosen Coach of the Year.

Gabriel Masenda was selected Referee of the Year. - SPORTS WRITER
