HARARE - Zimbabwe leading triathlete Chris Felgate is looking for a podium finish during his last International race at Troutbeck next weekend.

The annual Troutbeck African Triathlon championship will be Felgate’s last International event before he finally calls it quits at the BSG tri- series race in South Africa on December 2.

“Troutbeck will be my last International race that I will ever do so that will be emotional for real,” Felgate told the Daily News yesterday.

‘Having competed on this course for many years it will be great to end on a high. My career doesn’t officially end at home because I will compete in the BSG tri-series In South Africa,” he said.

Felgate will be making a return to a competitive race for the first time since his poor showing at the London Olympics held in August.

“I live in Johannesburg in one of the hilliest areas so any training session that involves running or cycling up and down hills I am pretty much covered in that respect,” he added.

“Some of the quickest swimming triathletes in South Africa will be competing. They have been preparing for the World Championships so are in good shape which makes the Troutbeck meet a real test.”

After Troutbeck, Felgate will return to South Africa where he is based to prepare for his triathlon finale in December.

Felgate, who will get married on December 15, is grateful for the support he has got from the local triathlon body and his sponsors.

“I want to thank the Zimbabwe Triathlon Association president, Rick Fulton and my coach Wayne Davidson for their commitment that has kept the sport alive in Zimbabwe.

“I would also like to say a big thank you to BSG for all their consistent support and to all the sponsors that have made Troutbeck possible; another awesome thing to see for sport in Zimbabwe.”
