Sundowns blast German club over Mushekwi
Wednesday, 12 September 2012 09:10
JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns have dismissed suggestions by Bundesliga club Greuther Furth that Downs deliberately scuppered striker Nyasha Mushekwi’s recent trials with the German club.

The transfer window closed on August 31 and this means Mushekwi’s anticipated move to Europe has failed to materialise.

The president of Greuther Furth, Helmut Hack, was recently quoted in the local media accusing the Brazilians of delaying Mushekwi’s departure to Germany for trials — a development they say frustrated the Zimbabwean player’s chances of being thoroughly assessed.

Hack pointed out that Mushekwi ended up featuring in just three of the club’s training sessions and therefore did not have enough time to make a favourable impression to the club’s coaches.

Sundowns, however, are rubbishing these claims.

The Brazilians insist they did everything they could to assist Mushekwi, who was widely expected to make the grade at the club.

“This is not true. We cooperated fully with the German club’s request regarding Nyasha’s trials,” Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito tells KickOff.com. For the record, while the player was in Germany, the club actually requested for more time to assess him than what had been initially agreed and we complied with their request,” adds Mosito.

“Everything was done above board. We do not stand in the way of any of our players if they wish to pursue their careers abroad,” he adds.

Other clubs from Germany and England are reportedly keen on roping in the aggressive Zimbabwean striker but will have to wait until January 2013 (when the next transfer window opens) before making a move on the player.  — Kickoff.com
