Chilumba appointed new Platinum coach
Sunday, 06 January 2013 11:42
HARARE - FC Platinum have appointed Zambian Tenant Chilumba as their new coach in a reshuffle of the club’s technical department and management ahead of the 2013 Castle Premiership season.

Chilumba, who was the chief scout at fellow PSL side Hwange, will be assisted by Tendai Chikuni, who finished last season as interim coach following the sacking of Rahman Gumbo in September.

“The club has appointed a coach for the season beginning January 2013, Mr Tenant Chilumba, who will join the club once he has finalised his work permit modalities,” FC Platinum’s new president George Mawere said in a statement yesterday.

“Mr Chilumba was the Zambian Under-23 coach and was part of the technical setup of the Zambian Afcon winning team. He will be assisted by current caretaker coach Chikuni, who took over the hot seat after Rahman Gumbo.

“Jairos Tapera will complete the technical team as he continues in his role as head of football development at the Premiership outfit.”

The ambitious Zvishavane-based side had a largely disappointing 2012 season, failing replicate the form that made them a title contender in their debut season in 2011.

After narrowly losing the title to Dynamos on goal difference in 2011, the platinum miners finished last season in seventh place, some 26 points off the pace.

Chilumba will be tasked to assemble a team that will challenge for honours in the forthcoming season.

Mawere also announced a new management structure at the club.

Platinum now has three committees namely the executive committee, advisory committee and a committee to oversee the commercial activities of the club.

Nathan Shoko, who stepped down as the club’s president, has now been appointed honorary president while Mawere takes up the position of president of the executive committee.

Tadson Zhou, Lovett Wadawareva and Elton Nyoka make up the club’s advisory committee.

Philemon Muvengwa, who was the Platinum secretary general, has now been redeployed to the club’s commercial committee.

Muvengwa has been replaced by Benson Virimayi, who takes up the position of secretary general in the executive committee.

Petros Ngoruma becomes the new club treasurer while Lloyd Shirichena becomes fundraising officer.
