Buffaloes win 6-goal thriller
Monday, 08 April 2013 13:59
MUTARE - Army side Buffaloes collected their first set of three points in the 2013 Castle Premiership season after walloping visiting Hwange here yesterday.

Buffaloes were ahead as early as the first minute when man-of-the-match Jacob Muzokomba struck home as some spectators were still finding their seats.

Six minutes later, the home side found their second goal through Farai Banda, who went on to score a brace.

The visitors were rattled by the two early goals but they did well to contain the rampant home side and did not concede any more goals heading into the breather.

After the break, Hwange tried their best to get into the game and Gilbert Zulu pulled one goal for the visitors when he headed home an Andrew Chuma cross from the right.

Any hopes of Chipangano’s come back were doused by Banda who completed his brace in the 57th minute.

The strike capitalised on a goal mouth melee inside the Hwange box before stabbing the ball home.

Steven Sibanda sealed the win for Saul Chaminuka’s men when he rifled home the fourth goal for the home side towards the end of the match.

Hwange substitute Nkosana Siwela put some respectability onto the scoreboard when he reduced the arrears for the visitors.

Siwela, who had a good game since coming on for Munyaradzi Mungadze, capitalised on the complacence from the home team to penetrate their defence.

Hwange coach Nation Dube blamed poor defending on the part of his team.

“We defended badly and the inconsistencies by the referee cost us the game today,” he said.

Buffaloes coach Saul Chaminuka was disappointed by his charges lack of concentration towards the end that allowed Hwange to score.

“We should not have given away the two goals like we did. We need to work on our defence and match concentration,” said Chaminuka. - Sydney Saize
