BULAWAYO - The country’s second-largest city, Bulawayo, was plunged into mourning as news of the death of Zimbabwean football legend Adam Ndlovu dawned on the city yesterday.

Bulawayo mayor Patrick Thaba Moyo said the death of Ndlovu had shocked the city, saying council would give all the support to the Ndlovu family during the difficult time.

“It’s really very difficult to believe that Adam is gone. He was a great son from the city and as the Bulawayo City Council we will give the Ndlovu family all the support they need during this sad moment,” said Moyo.

Yesterday morning, a group of friends and relatives gathered at Adam’s residence in Selbourne Park to mourn the amiable former Warriors star.

“We can’t believe Adam is gone, we can’t believe he has just been taken away from us like that. It’s so sad,” said Adam’s friend, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, who is also a former Highlanders player.

Another friend, George Bhebhe, said: “This is devastating, it’s hard to believe he is gone because we were with him on Thursday discussing the future of his team Chicken Inn.”

Ndlovu was the coach of Bulawayo-based top flight club Chicken Inn.

“I can’t believe my uncle has been taken away. He was a pillar of this family and has gone too soon” said Ndlovu’s nephew, Freedom Ncube. - Pindai Dube
