Sawu wary of Congo threat

HARARE - Zimbabwe Under-17 assistant coach Agent Sawu has conceded that beating 2011 African Youth Championship bronze medallists Congo Brazzaville will be no stroll in the park.

Zimbabwe face Congo Brazzaville in the second round of the bi-annual football competition qualifiers at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday ahead of the second leg two weeks later.

Congo had a fairy-tale 2011 Under-17 African Youth Championship campaign in which they stunned cup holders Gambia 3-0 en route to edging Côte d'Ivoire 2-1 to take third place.

Congo put the icing on their cake when they qualified for the 2011 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Mexico.

However, Sawu remains confident that despite having limited knowledge of the Central African team, the Young Warriors will emerge victors.

“All we know is that they won the bronze medal in last year’s competition, so we know they are a good side.  But we are not intimidated. We will obviously play to our strengths,” said the former Warriors hitman.

“We have been working on strong combination play amongst other things and I believe we are ready for the challenge.”

The Young Warriors recently received a cash injection of $10 000 from Murowa Diamonds.
