HARARE - The Zimbabwe cricket team’s bowling coach Heath Streak says he returns home better equipped following his month-long stint in ICC Champions League recently held in South Africa.

Australian franchise Sydney Sixers won the Twenty20 competition with an emphatic 10-wicket win over Lions of South Africa in a final played at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Matabeleland Tuskers head coach Streak played a consultancy role with New Zealand side Auckland Aces.

The New Zealand T20 champions sought the services of Streak on the basis of his vast knowledge of South African wickets.

Streak was recommended to Auckland by former Zimbabwe Test teammate Paul Strang, who is the New Zealand side’s head coach.

Emerging New Zealand international Colin de Grandhomme, a native of Zimbabwe, was the other African connection in the team.

“It was very enjoyable and a good learning curve for me,” Streak told the Daily News yesterday.

“Hopefully I was able to impart my knowledge gained over the years as a player and lately as coach, which makes the experience of mutual benefit.”

Added the former Zimbabwe skipper: “The experience also came with a lot of good networking opportunities.

A couple of guys want to come and play in Zimbabwe’s traditional Stanbic T20 series, while we are also working on taking our players to train at the world-class cricketing facilities offered by the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.

Mash Eagles’ Kyle Jarvis and Tatenda Manatsa-Gumunyu had the privilege to train there recently.”
