Friday, 14 December 2012 10:07
HARARE - Midwest Rhinos and Mashonaland Eagles completed a domestic Twenty20 double over Southern Rocks and Manicaland Mountaineers respectively with convincing wins over their opponents in as many days yesterday.

Rhinos followed up their 113-run win over Rocks on Wednesday with a thumping 10-wicket victory at Kwekwe Sports Club yesterday.

The Midlands outfit restricted Rocks to 122-6 in 20 overs after on-the-mend Zimbabwe pace bowler Ed Rainsford took a brace of wickets while fellow seamers Richard Muzhange and Mluleki Nkala, as well as spinner Remembrance Nyathi, took a wicket apiece.

In pursuit, Rhinos cruised home with openers Vusi Sibanda (70) and Jack Mickleburgh (47) sharing a match-winning unbeaten first wicket stand.

Zimbabwe batsman Sibanda smashed seven boundaries and three sixes from 44 balls while Englishman Mickleburgh faced 37 balls and hit six fours.

Meanwhile at Harare Sports Club, Mashonand Eagles, who beat Mountaineers by eight wickets on Wednesday at the same venue, made it two out of two with a 53-run win yesterday.

Half-centuries by openers Sikandar Raza Butt (70) and Chamu Chibhabha (50) laid the foundation for a competitive total of 180 runs by the host franchise.

In reply, Mountaineers were bowled out for 127 runs inside 18 overs.

Emerging spin bowler Tino Mutombodzi was the pick of the Eagles bowlers with a four-wicket haul while fellow spinner Ray Price and fast bowler Kyle Jarvis both took two wickets. - Sports Writer
