HARARE - Ugly scenes dampened the highly-anticipated grand finale of the Mbada Diamonds Cup, which Dynamos won 2-0 against Monomotapa to retain the country’s richest domestic football competition.

It was a nightmare for journalists to enter the VIP area at Rufaro Stadium.

After making it past the rigid security details, the fourth estate was again barred for a lengthy period of time as they attempted to enter the pitch-side to conduct interviews.

Amidst the wrangle of pushing and shoving as football stakeholders frantically tried persuade the security men to budge, chancers and thieves took the opportunity to seek out their pray.

It came as no surprise when this writer and his colleague had their mobile phones stolen.

As all this was happening foreign media SuperSport was having exclusive interviews with the players and officials.

It was amidst this confusion that somehow, double scorer Rodrick Mutuma ended up being crowned the man-of-the-match, much to the surprise of observers, who had seen defender David Kutyauripo having a stellar role for the defending champions.

During the match, Dynamos fans had their own moment of madness after throwing missiles onto the pitch following Monomotapa midfielder Hillary Mugoniwa’s free-kick which was tipped over the bar by Dynamos goalkeeper George Chigova.

The youthful goalkeeper protested against the decision, which incited the DeMbare fans to register their disgruntlement.
