HARARE - The Zimbabwean team might be young but they do have enough firepower to upset any major team in the World T20 starting with hosts Sri Lanka tomorrow.

The guy that both the Zimbabwe team and their fans would be looking up to will be no other than their captain, Brendan Taylor.

Taylor has shown that he has the fibre required to survive at the highest level of the game. He played really well in the recently concluded tri-series and certainly would be yearning for a chance to prove his and his team’s efficiency in the world T20.

Other than Brendan Taylor, one can expect players like Ray Price, Hamilton Masakadza, Tatenda Taibu and Prosper Utseya to perform well in the world cup.

All these players have ample experience and skill to give any of the top teams some moments of anxiety.

The spin of Ray Price will certainly test a lot of batsmen in the hot and humid conditions of Sri Lanka.

Masakadza,Taibu and Utseya certainly are pretty good batsmen and for Zimbabwe to make a good show of their skill and abilities, every single one of them will have to perform well.

As far as the bowling attack of Zimbabwe is concerned, that is probably where they will face a lot of problems.

They do have the experience of Price, who is a very good slow left arm bowler, yet their spin resources beyond him are pretty limited.

Greame Cremer and Utseya are experienced bowlers but they lack the skill to create problems for top-class players of spin.

Since the pitches and conditions in Sri Lanka would invariably favour the spin bowler, Zimbabwe could have quite a few problems as far as their spin bowling resources are concerned.

However, with good spinners, there always remains the necessity of good pacers. In that department again, Zimbabwe remain lacking.

Their faster bowlers are average at the very best. They do have experience in the shape of Elton Chigumbura and somewhat Chris Mpofu.

Both these bowlers are not bad yet, they do lack the flare to drive away the fury of some of the most hard-hitting batsmen in world cricket these days.

Overall, the bowling attack of Zimbabwe is pretty average at best.

Yet, this is a side that does have the ability to topple the big guns at any moment.

They might not be rated much but with the effort of some of their best cricketers, they could really put up a good show of their skills and create a bit of drama in the group stages.

Zimbabwe are going to play against Sri Lanka tomorrow and against South Africa two days later.

Their chances of qualifying to the next round are pretty thin but not at all hopeless. Still, it remains to be seen whether this team could do what would be most unexpected and have one of the two big guns in group C sent home.
