We are just unlucky: Chaminuka
Thursday, 04 April 2013 11:58
HARARE - Buffaloes coach Saul Chaminuka says he is not pressing the panic button yet following a woeful start to the new Castle Premiership season.

Morale in the Buffaloes camp is very low after opening the season with two consecutive defeats.

The Mutare side were beaten by FC Platinum 2-1at Sakubva Stadium in the season opener before going down 2-1 to Monomotapa at Gwanzura Stadium on Easter Monday.

On Monday despite dominating the game and creating a glut of chances, Chaminuka’s men left the capital empty-handed, and the gaffer feels luck has not been on his team’s side.

“They created a lot of chances and had a lot of attempts on goal but we couldn’t get the breakthrough we needed,” Chaminuka told the Daily News yesterday. “There is no need for us to change anything, we just need a bit of luck.

This is just a bad spell we are experiencing. It is still too early to rule us out of the title race. We will recover. It is bad that the strikers are failing to score, but we will work hard on our finishing.”

Buffaloes finished the 2012 season in sixth position with 44 points, a remarkable achievement for a team that only the previous season was playing second-tier football.

Chaminuka says his team can still surpass last season’s achievements despite the slow start this term.

“In our pre-season preparations we acquired five top players and they are still fitting into the system. I want to promise our supporters that goals will come soon.”

Buffaloes secured attacking midfielder Wonder Sithole from Dynamos, former  Eastern Lions and Hwange striker Tawanda Mareya, ex-Masvingo United and Sethio forward Douglas Zimbago, former Highway and How Mine striker Stephen  Sibanda as well ex-youth international player Jacob Muzokomba.
