HARARE - Zimbabwe's talismanic striker Knowledge Musona has accepted a call-up to the Warriors, three months after sensationally quitting the team over a disagreement with the country’s football governing body.

Musona, who scored the winning goal in Zimbabwe’s 1-0 win over Burundi in an African Nations Cup qualifier in June, will now spearhead the Warriors’ attack again when they take on Angola in a crucial 2013 Afcon qualifier in Harare on September 9.

The 22-year-old forward, who plays for Bundesliga side FC Augsburg on loan from fellow German club 1899 Hoffenheim, announced he was quitting international football in June after Zifa appeared to implicate him in match-fixing activities during the Warriors’ World Cup qualifiers against Guinea and Mozambique three months ago.  

Musona, through his lawyer Misheck Hogwe, demanded a public apology from Zifa before he could return to the team.

But the Warriors kingpin, who was recently included in the squad to face Angola by coach Rahman Gumbo, has made an about-turn.

Musona’s lawyer yesterday wrote to Zifa legal advisor Ralph Maganga informing the association of his unconditional return to the national team despite failure by Zifa to apologise.

“We are pleased to advise that our client (Musona) will accordingly avail himself for selection for national duty,” read part of the letter to Zifa.

“He appreciates fully that insisting on your client (Zifa) aknowledging their error may be akin to pushing them to swallow boiling fat.”

Musona has pledged to play to the best of his ability despite receiving a raw deal from Zifa.

“He will give his all, like he has always done and will not sacrifice his commitment to the national interest at the altar of ego.”

Musona says his change of heart has come about due to the faith shown by the national team coaches and pleas from fans and other stakeholders for him not to ditch the Warriors.

“Our client feels humbled by the fact that the coaches have expressed confidence that he may still make a contribution to the Warriors’ national cause despite the hurtful allegations made against him,” further read the letter.

“He feels humbled by a litany of pleas from various fans and other stakeholders for him to reconsider his position. The foregoing factors coupled by his unwavering patriotism and desire to serve his country at the highest level, have persuaded our client to reconsider.”

Musona’s availability for the Angola tie is, however, is dependent on his release by his German club.

“Our client is not sure whether his club will release him since formalities requesting his availability were not done in time. He just hopes for the best.”
