HARARE - Shabanie Mine beat fellow miners Hwange 2-1 at Maglas yesterday to make it two-out-of-two this season over Chipangano.

Shabanie dominated the first half but failed to beat impressive Hwange goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda, who pulled off a string of fine saves to deny the hosts.

The Chinda Boys opened the scoring through Tafadzwa Mombeshora, who headed home a cross from Bervington Zimunya on 49 minutes.

There was drama after the goal as Hwange players hotly protested against the awarding of the goal by referee Munyaradzi Majoni, arguing that keeper Sibanda was obstructed by Shabanie players before the goal.

In the midst of the commotion, Hwange striker Tongai Mamina run towards his team’s bench and was given a handful of coarse salt. He passed on the salt to his teammates, who put the substance in their shorts and socks in full glare of spectators.

The bizarre stunt seemed to have a psychological effect on Shabanie, who conceded the equaliser through Malvern Longwe in the 70th minute. Tawanda Mareya won possession on the right and whipped in a cross that Victor Twaliki flicked for Longwe to head home.

Shabanie, however, regrouped and restored their lead on 77 minutes through Pervington Zimunya, who curled in a free kick past a stranded Sibanda to secure crucial points for the Zvishavane side.
