HARARE - The Deputy Sherriff has attached property belonging to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) after former executive Andrew Muzamhindo emerged victorious in a long-standing payment dispute with the association.

Following the issuing of a writ of execution, the Deputy Sherriff attached office equipment and vehicles at the ZC headquarters two weeks ago after the local cricket governing body lost a High Court appeal to pay outstanding dues of over $100 000 to Muzamhindo, a former ZC commercial director.

ZC, which was represented by lawyer and the association’s board member Wilson Manase during the dispute, confirmed the attachment through spokesperson Shingai Rhuhwaya.

During his tenure, public relations and media strategist Muzamhindo helped paint-brush a beleaguered ZC, which was reeling from the aftermath of internal squabbling and sponsor desertion. Several sponsors came on board under his leadership, while relations with media also normalised.

The Daily News could not immediately establish the breakdown of the outstanding dues owed, Muzamhindo while was not at liberty to reveal details when contacted for comment yesterday.  

“My policy is not to discuss issues to do with my ex-employers in the press, but please feel free to contact my legal counsel (Douglas) Chinawa at Kantor and Immerman,” Muzamhindo said.

Muzamhindo’s lawyer, Chinawa, revealed that ZC board members risk imprisonment if the association fails to pay.

“We are now expecting payment of the of the judgment amount anytime soon,” he said.

“Failure to do so, it will be a question of the property meeting the amount of which we will have to go back and attach more property, or resort to the imprisonment of directors. However, the Deputy Sheifft has notified us that the value of the attached property is sufficient.”

The despite between Muzamhindo and ZC erupted five years ago after the former commercial executive, who served the association between 2004 and 2007, initially won an arbitration against his former employers.

The mater proceeded to the Labour Court, where the Harare businessman won again. ZC appealed to the High Court, leading to last October’s verdict in favour of Muzamhindo. - Sports Writer
