HARARE - Midwest Rhinos coach Grant Flower has turned to the Logan Cup for solace after missing out on a well-deserved Coca-Cola Pro 50 final last Saturday due to an administration error.

 The Kwekwe-based franchise side were docked five points by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) after fielding an illegible player, Peter Moor, without getting clearance from the association.

The 21-year- old right-handed batsman was signed from Harare franchise Mashonaland Eagles.

 As a result, third-placed Eagles were promoted to play in the final, giving them an opportunity to successfully defend their title after a five-run win in a rain-hit final against Matabeleland Tuskers on Saturday.

 “It’s disappointing and I’m very upset about that. It was an administration error, we failed to lodge the necessary transfer documents for PJ Moor with ZC on time and got punished for that,” Flower told the Daily News yesterday.

 “We blew it,that was our real chance of putting something into the cabinet. Now the focus is on the longer version, nothing is impossible, but considering where we stand with those three other teams it’s not going to be easy to win the championship.”

 Tuskers lead the four-day Logan Cup table with 27 points from four matches while Rhinos, Mountaineers and Southern Rocks are all tied on 14 points from the same number of matches with the net run rate separating them.

 This morning, Midwest host Mash Eagles at Kwekwe Sports Club hoping to close the gap on leaders Tuskers.

 “They (Mash Eagles) are rooted at the bottom of the league while we have been playing pretty well in this longer version,” Flower added.

 “You can’t really write them off because they are just coming from winning a final they were not supposed to have played in, so the better team on the day will win.”

Rhinos welcome back legspinner Graeme Cremer and former Test batsman Mark Vermeulen from injury.

 In the other Logan Cup match, Southern Rocks host defending champions and leaders Tuskers in Masvingo.
