HARARE - The Mbada Diamonds Cup first round match pitting Zimbabwe champions Dynamos and struggling Castle Premiership newcomers Quelaton will be beamed live on SuperSport 9 tomorrow as one of five matches the pay-per-view channel will broadcast this season.

SuperSport last week sealed a landmark six-year broadcast rights deal with Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League to beam the country’s top flight league, which has culminated in tomorrow’s broadcast.

SuperSport will broadcast league and cup matches played during the remainder of the 2012 football season and during the 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons.

In their first full season next year, the broadcast giant revealed it will be airing over 20 weekends with an estimated eight matches in each weekend scheduled to be screened on the World of Champions.

“We have the capacity, we have the equipment to screen eight matches from Friday to Sunday and that’s what will aim to do. We are still to sit down with the PSL to formulate the programme,” SuperSport executive producer Max Tshunungwa told reporters at a function on Thursday night at the National Sports Stadium.

“It’s a long time coming, we are here as partners not as sponsors."

But due to other logistics, it’s sad that we are coming this late. But now we are excited, we feel this is the moment.”

Through Africa’s leading sports broadcaster, local players will get the opportunity to showcase their talent to a wider audience.

PSL chairperson Twine Phiri said these were exciting times for Zimbabwean football.

SuperSport will broadcast the matches through all platforms including television, mobile and internet throughout sub-Saharan Africa and adjacent islands.

“We are saying if you have been sitting on the fence, this is an opportunity to partner with us. Imagine being beamed on 41 countries across Africa, this is a win-win situation for all stakeholders,” he said.

Meanwhile, SuperSport on Thursday screened an edition of the African Football show during the function at the National Sports Stadium.
