Six keepers a sign of depth: Msiska

HARARE - Former Warriors goalkeepers coach Brenna Msiska says having six goalies in an enlarged 31 member Warriors squad is sign of depth and not dilemma.

Zimbabwe, who face Angola in a decisive African Nations Cup qualifier on Sunday in Luanda, have called up six goal keepers, which the former CAPS United and Black Aces stopper says it’s a reflection of the good quality keepers in the country.

“They could have called in 12 (goalies) because we have very good keepers but (unfortunately) we just need one goalkeeper,” Msiska told reporters at CAPS’ weekly press conference yesterday.

Zimbabwe’s number one shot stopper Tapuwa Kapini is out of the tie, having undergoing surgery last month, a development which seems to have sparked indecision in the squad.

Asked who he tips to get the nod on Sunday, Msiska said:

“Well, I can’t comment on that but whoever is going to between the sticks on the day will do the job.”

Turning to his club’s recent Premiership mini-revival and their impeding Mbada Diamonds Cup quarter-final match with Buffaloes in two weeks’ time, Msiska commented:

“It’s 50-50 since we are all playing away from home. Buffaloes are playing well but we have also been playing well too.”

Msiska says winning the country’s richest knockout competition will appease CAPS fans, who have endured a difficult season in the league. United currently occupy 10th place with 31 points.

“After we win this cup we will be alright and everyone will be happy,” Msiska said.

“We are the Cup Kings. The fans want something every time we play. Each season they want us to win something.”
