HARARE - Newly-promoted Castle Premiership side Black Rhinos re-grouped for a trial of potential new players at One Commando yesterday as they begin preparations for the upcoming 2013 season.

The army side has targeted Kariba or Chiredzi for a pre-season training camp.

Rhinos became the first team from the four national division one leagues to be promoted into the Premiership after an impressive run last year.

 Chipembere’s last dance with the Premiership was back in 2008 when Droment Chirova guided the team into the top flight.

 Rhinos used yesterday’s platform to hold trials as they seek to bolster their squad.

 “It was serious business today (yesterday) and I was impressed by the turnout. We had more than 100 players who came for trials,” said Saruchera.

 “We have short-listed some players whom we felt they could add depth to the team in the Premiership as you are aware there is tough competition in the top-flight.

 “We are looking for talent to beef up our squad. We don’t want to change the whole team because we won the championship with about 11 points ahead so we have depth.  We are looking at holding a training camp either in Chiredzi or Kariba. The bosses are still running around to see where we can go.

 “We are not taking any chances. We want to stamp our authority in the Premiership and we are looking at best possible preparations. We want to beef up all departments. Our emphasis is on players aged between 18 and 23 years who could fit into our system.

 “Already, we have experienced players such as goalkeeper Britto Gwere, Brighton Chandisaita and Lazarus Muhoni and young players like Martin Mine and Lot Chiunga.”
