Hardbody appeal over ‘ineligible’ Rangers player
Saturday, 01 September 2012 14:21
HARARE - Hardbody have appealed to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) over the alleged use of an improperly registered player by Blue Rangers in their Castle Premiership match played in Harare on Saturday.

Rangers won 3-2.

In a letter addressed to the PSL secretariat, Hardbody claims the player in question, Jambo Watare, who once turned out for Division One side Sprouting FC, was this year registered by Rangers using a different name, Jealous Wilson.

Hardbody argued that their assistant coach, Conrad Nyambabvu, once coached Watare at Sprouting using the name Jambo, not Jealous.

“The above-mentioned player has been coached by the Hardbody FC assistant coach Conrad Nyambabvu using the name Jambo Watare. Our assistant coach is well acquainted with the player and his family using the name Jambo Watare. In addition, spectators at the match also identified the player as Jambo Watare,” read part of the Hardbody letter.

“With this in mind, we have reason to believe that the said player is playing under an assumed name as he is known to us under a different name. We kindly ask the PSL management to urgently investigate this matter to prevent any possible prejudice to other teams in the league.”

Last year, the Zimbabwe Football Association introduced a new centralised and computerised player registration programme after a recommendation from Fifa as part of efforts to end perennial registration wrangles in football.

To that effect, Zifa last year established a fully-fledged player registration department headed by Timothy Mazhindu, who received specialised training from Fifa on the new transfer systems.
