Man nearly killed over $1 loan
Monday, 13 May 2013 10:59
HARARE - An Epworth man narrowly escaped death after he was stabbed by his neighbour for asking for his $1 loan back.

Tinashe Chitanda, 26, was rescued by onlookers after Tichaona Maurara, 33, continuously stabbed him.

Maurara was advised to apply for bail at the High Court by magistrate Don Ndirowei who remanded him in custody to May 24.

It is the State’s case that Chitanda was watching a game of snooker when he saw Maurara on May 1 at Mazivanhanga Shops in Epworth.

The court heard that when Maurara was confronted over the money he owed Chitanda, he became agitated and stabbed him on lower part of the right side of his chest with a knife causing a deep cut.

Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira told the court that Chitanda was only rescued by patrons at the shops who managed to stop Maurara before handing him over to the police.

Meanwhile, a Mudzi man has been remanded in custody on allegations of murder after he axed his victim on the head. - Helen Kadirire
