HARARE - At least seven people died on the spot and 22 others were seriously injured after a haulage truck and two commuter omnibuses collided at the intersection of Airport Road and Glenara Avenue in Harare yesterday.

The accident involved a haulage truck and two commuter omnibuses, one of them believed to have been travelling from Epworth en route to Harare’s central business district, claimed seven lives on the spot.

Police spokesperson, Andrew  Phiri, confirmed the accident saying preliminary investigations suggest that the haulage truck driver encroached into oncoming vehicles resulting in the fatal accident.

The police, fire brigade personnel, paramedics and  members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces rescued trapped victims and ensured that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. - Staff Writer
