China donates medical equipmentto Zim

HARARE - China has donated a set of medical equipment worth $50 000 to Zimbabwe.

The medical equipment comprising of ureteroscopes was delivered yesterday at a handover ceremony at the University of Zimbabwe.

The ceremony was attended by a visiting delegation from China’s Hunan provincial department of health led by Lin Andi, who is the deputy director-general of the section.

Officials from the ministry of Health and Child Welfare of Zimbabwe, the College of Health Science University of Zimbabwe and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Han Bing, the economic and commercial
counsellor of Chinese Embassy also witnessed the donation.

Speaking at the ceremony Han Bing, said China and Zimbabwe enjoy deep traditional relations.

“Considerable achievements have been made in the fields of trade, investment, contracting and technological cooperation between our two countries. The total volume of trade between two countries raised from less than $100 million in 2000 to $874 million in 2011 with the growth of more than 10 times,” said Han.

“The projects supported by Chinese government, including the Agriculture Demonstration Centre, National Stadium, schools and hospitals have been implemented in Zimbabwe,” he further said.

He mentioned to the attendees that China-aid Hospital in Mahusekwa, Mashonaland East Province was handed to the government last month.

“The emergency food aid from the Chinese government, nearly 10 000 tonnes of wheat and 5 000 tonnes of rice, have been at the GMB of Zimbabwe and we are mobilising the Chinese Community to help transportation of the food to rural areas,” he said, stating that the assistance has made great assistance to the development of the country. - Tendai Kamhungira
