HARARE - Information and Publicity permanent secretary George Charamba says he was unaware of a meeting called by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s office to discuss media reforms.

In a statement to the Daily News, Charamba said no one from the prime minister’s office informed him of the purported meeting.

“In that article, your source is one Alex Magaisa whom you describe as ‘Tsvangirai’s top aide’.

“You also claim I was not reachable yesterday. Like my minister, I am unaware of any meeting set for yesterday involving the ministry leadership and the PM’s Office,” said Charamba.

“Equally, I am unaware of anyone in the Civil Service who answers to the name Alex Magaisa, and thus with the status and mandate to invite my minister, myself or both of us, or even to speak about fixtures of government.

And just as well you did not find me, assuming you looked for me at all,” Charamba said.

He added he will never respond to anyone called a “Tsvangirai aide”, however “top” you may think he is.

“My counterpart in the Prime Minister’s Office is Secretary Ian Makone who is quite aware of government procedures and activities.

“I notice he is a non-player in your story whose writer seems to believe that structures and personnel of a political party can interpose between government departments, all to cause a meeting,” Charamba who is also presidential spokesperson, said. - Staff Writer
